Baked Goods Self-Portrait Contest II: The Cupcakening

Due to the rampant success of the Cookie Self-Portrait Challenge, Steven and I were recently challenged to a rematch by Houston-area artist James Fox, who generously agreed to fly up for this showdown.

On the plus side, I finally had an excuse to buy a cupcake pan. On the downside, I am not very good at art in any medium, especially not frosting. I was therefore forced to make two cupcakes in the hope that quantity would finally win over quality. So my entries included:

Patricia Ladd: Real Life (and on some kind of mountain)

And…

Mark Twain: Real Life

Clearly my choice for a second entry had to be Mark Twain, noted badass and the only person that comes to mind when you have large amounts of shaved coconut just sitting around. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if even the awesomeness of Mark Twain can save me.

Steven Wiggins: Real Life (and falling off some kind of mountain)

I feel that this entry shows a lack of creativity, since he pretty much did the same thing as his cookie self-portrait:

Steven Wiggins (cookie self-portrait)

Not that there’s any rule against how much shaved chocolate you can use, and I guess this time he did add shaved coconut dandruff for the full effect. BUT STILL.

And finally…

James Fox: Real Life (now with real eyebrow-action!)

As compared to…

James Fox: Cupcake Self-Portrait (now with empty soulless eyes!!)

James Fox contends that he should be the victor, not only because his shows the most frosting-sculpting skill, but because his is the tastiest. I am not sure if this is actually one of the rules are not. You should decide!

It’s interesting that Steven put some coconut in his cupcake hair. This suggests to me that you should make fun of him for prematurely going gray. OLD PERSON!

  2. I have to cast my vote for the James Fox cupcake because every time I see it I feel like I am looking into a mirror of frosting and jimmies.

In my opinion, Patricia clearly wins this challenge. Not only did she make 2 amazing cupcakes which is TWICE THE AMOUNT of anyone else, but hers are more original. Patrica’s self-portrait cupcake stands out from the rest- I mean, COME ON…gummy worm hair?? That’s genius. And gummy worms are my favorite, so she wins!

Since Bova is always right and I miss Patricia so much, Clearly Patricia wins.

On another note, James, your hair looks better on the cupcake then in real life. Fix that issue!

    • I’ll see what I can do to make my hair look more like chocolate frosting. Sadly I am not sure my hair will ever be as delicious as that of my cupcake counterpart.

Bova is always right, Patricia wins.
