Strange Library Sightings: “Naked Rampage”

One of my coworkers who goes to NC State showed me this news report today at work about, as she put it “some guy running through the library (voice drops to a whisper) IN THE BUFF”. The headline “Naked Rampage” confused me at first until I saw the video and how he was wildly throwing books off the shelves. So maybe it should be retitled “Naked Book Rampage”, which sounds like a fun time.

But maybe that’s just because I, too, am really stressed about finals. I feel your pain, Seth Pace.

My Latest Obsession: Polka Bands

I know I’m the kind of person who usually gets way into traditional music and dance no matter how ridic, but I’ve always hated the polka, ever since we learned it in Southern Belle School. It seemed like no one else really knew how to do it either, and we’d all end up awkwardly hopping around the room not knowing what to do. Then a guy who looked just like Mr. Clean got on my dance card at the ball and it was ALL KINDS OF POLKA DRAMA.

Anyway, I have decided to change my mind:

Polka bands are clearly AWESOME. I want to form my own to cover Lady Gaga songs. I call accordion!

Also, I’ve been getting so much Russian spam on my blog that when I signed on Google was all: “We’ve noticed this page is in Russian, do you want us to translate it for you?” and I was all “STOP OVERRIDING MY DEFAULTS BY SHEER NUMBERS, SPAMBOTS.” Don’t worry, I won’t give up the good fight.

I want to marry a lighthouse keeper and keep him company…

Times I Have Almost Died: Escaped Penguin Attack

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is supposed to be pretty baller, as far as aquariums go, although I remained at the same level of impressedness I maintain towards the Tampa Bay aquarium (through Florida solidarity). In only two places do they excel: the sea horse exhibit and the penguins. Sea horses are, naturally, my favorite, being the giraffes of the sea, but the penguins were most impressive because of one’s stolid attempts to escape. Observe:

Luckily he did not succeed, for if he had, I would have undoubtedly faced DEATH once again as the infuriated, adrenaline-fueled penguin attempted to gore what he would see as the nearest of his human captors.

Misguided Travel Guides: White Sands National Monument

If you drive forever down Highway 70 in New Mexico, just the sort of place you’d expect to run out of gas or break down at the start of a Tex-Mex themed slasher film, you’ll pass some missile testing sites, an inexplicable border patrol check point, and White Sands National Monument. I’ve wanted to go ever since Josh Langsfeld told me in a postcard that it was “like being on the moon.” Which I guess could be true, if Josh’s version of the moon involves being blisteringly hot and sledding down sand dunes, the two principal activities at White Sands.
